Literary Analysis, American Literature

(grades 9-12)
Instructor: John Menken B.S.English, M.Div.

This course introduces students to key elements of literature like setting, character development, plot, theme, and conflict. Each of these is examined as it appears in simple pieces of literature. We will notice how literature reflects the life and times of the author as well as the social and moral tones of that age.  Then students will use their new knowledge and higher-order thinking skills to analyze larger classic literary works. The course requires students to write about the literature based on the interpretive elements that they have learned.

This is a two-semester course. Order the Teaching the Classics Workbook, code TCW, ($25) online.  You might also purchase two novels to be announced (about $7 each).
